Adventures in Atlantis
2008 BOM
|
Welcome to Adventures in Atlantis, my take on what the
Lost City of Atlantis might look like if it were ever found.
There will be a new block every month. The "building" part of
each BOM will be avaiable as a free pdf download for one month
only. If you would like a reminder each month, please subscribe
to my newsletter, SundropNews (see link on left sidebar).
The full block pattern will fit on a 12" finished block, but this size
is not mandatory. A 14", 15", 16" or 18" background block will
give you a lot more space to add special touches (like the Sundrop Sea
Critters) or to do some fancy quilting. Or work with a 1.5 to
2-yard length of fabric and place things wherever you wish. I'm
just the architect on this project - you are the City Planner!

Designer Notes:
It seems like most artists' portray Santa vacationing on some tropical
island basking in the sun. When I thought about this, it seemed
unlikely that someone accustomed to a cold weather climate would be
comfortable sunbathing in the tropics. Besides that, how would
the Clauses and the elves escape the paparazzi? A get-away
in the City of Atlantis seemed the perfect solution! They would
have a climate-controlled house with a gorgeous view, and the press
would never find them.
In this house, I think the main rooms (kitchen, livingroom, bedrooms,
etc.) are in the central core. The rooms in the two wings are
observation decks, equivalent to our sunrooms. I didn't add a lot
of critters to this one, but I'm sure you'll have fun adding your own -
perhaps Santa relaxing in one of the observation rooms or a couple of
elves swimming around the "trees." Have fun!
