Sundrop Critters 2008:
Animals of Australia
Camira, the Sundrop Spotted Cuscus
6" appliqué block pattern
$2.00
|
Cuscuses are
members of the Phalanger family, a type of possum. The Spotted Cuscus
is a little different from most, having no stripe down its back. It
looks like a cross between a possum, a koala and a monkey. Due to its
prehensile tail, the first Europeans to see it in Australia often thought
it was a monkey. The Spotted Cuscus is a shy, nocturnal critter and
spends most of its time in the trees, so is rarely seen by humans. Their
bodies are about the size of a housecat, and have 12" to 24" tails. They
hae a variety of color patterns. Males are usually spotted, but most
females are not spotted. They are marsupials with forward facing pouches.
Sandy
Did you know?
The cuscus has 5 digits on each paw. The front paws have two opposable
thumbs while the back paws have one opposable thumb.
Juvenile spotted cuscus can go through a variety of color changes before
they reach mature adult status.
The spotted cuscus's tail is half furry and half hairless. The hairless
half has scales on the underside.

Rosemary Small chose realistic
colors and made her test blocks into a wall quilt. Fun,
bright colors (not realistic - see Leatherback to the right)
could be used for a whimsical look.

Scruffy's Page
Scruffy has been begging for his fair share of attention for
himself and other canine creatures, so he now has his own page for
the dogs.

Sunny's Page
This is where all the cats hang out and try to teach the world
about cats and everything else under the sun. They tend to argue
a lot about the "right" way to do things, so please forgive me if pages
don't get uploaded in a timely manner.
