Charity Patterns: Sundrop Puppy Quilt

This pattern is presented freely for your use in making children's quilts for charitable purposes. York, the Sundrop Puppy (click here for pattern), was created in honor of the rescue dogs who worked in the Sept. 11 World Trade Center crisis, and so he is presented here in the flag colors of the United States. However, other color schemes can be used for a more generic effect. Some children might not want a quilt that so vividly reminds them of such a tragic event.

In the examples below:
color A = red
color B = navy
color C = white
color D = light blue (background)

crib size: 48.5" x 59.5"

twin size: 59.5" x 81.5"

You will need:

12 - 8.5"square puppy blocks (8"sq. finished)

20 - 3.5"square star blocks (3"sq. finished) -- your choice of stars

31 - 3.5' x 8.5" rectangles for the sash (3" x 8" finished)

Each color border strip is 2.5" wide (2" finished). Exact length measurements will be determined by you quilt top.

<>Yardage required:
color A: 1.5 yards, color B: 1.75 yards, color C: 1.5 yards, color D: 1 yard
Note: yardage based on 40" wide fabric with unpieced border strips. Amounts are pretty accurate - add extra if you like an allowance for errors.

Binding: 6.25 yards pre-made binding (about 1/2 yard of fabric if you make your own binding - based on 2.5" wide strips cut width of fabric)

You will need:

24 - 8.5"square puppy blocks (8"sq. finished)

35 - 3.5"square star blocks (3"sq. finished) -- your choice of stars

58 - 3.5' x 8.5" rectangles for the sash (3" x 8" finished)

Each color border strip is 2.5" wide (2" finished). Exact length measurements will be determined by your quilt top.

Yardage required:
color A: 2 yards, color B: 2 yards, color C: 2.5 yards, color D: 2 yards
