Patterns: Sundrop Puppy Meet York, the Sundrop Puppy! After watching televised coverage of the World Trade Center rescue efforts, we knew that the Sundrop Kitten had to have a doggy friend. This pattern is dedicated to the many firefighters and police officers and their canine helpers who serve so valiantly.
In the spirit of patriotism, the Sundrop Puppy is shown here in red, white and blue, but he can be made in lots of different colors. His tail can be one color or two. Add button, felt or embroidered eyes if desired (if making for a young child, do not use buttons). The pattern below is scaled for a 3-inch block (tight fit). For more background space, use this size on a 4-inch background block (4-1/2 inches unfinished). You may enlarge it on a photocopier to the size of your choice. Remember to add a 1/4-inch seam allowance for appliqué methods with edges turned under.

This crib quilt uses 8" puppy blocks set with 3" sashing and 3" star cornerstone blocks. The border is comprised of 2" strips of three colors. The Friendship star block was used in the sample above, but an appliquéd star looks just as nice. Finished size: 48.5" x 59.5". (Enlarge pattern above by 230-250% to fit an 8" block.)
